Meet Dustin Reynolds!

How did you get into stand up comedy?

I have been interested in stand up ever since I visited New York with my family years back. New York was where I saw my very first comedy show. Fast forward years later my family saw on Facebook that a comedy night was going to be at the Tallahassee art park. I live an hour away from Tallahassee in a small South Georgia town called Brinson, so the idea of seeing a comedy show that close was amazing. We go to the show and after I find out that there was another comedy show that night at Birds, so my family and I go to the Tallahassee Comedy Showcase ran by Austin Mann that same night. After the showcase I hear Austin Mann say there will be an open mic in 15 minutes, all you got to do is sign up. I end up signing up with no material besides stories I tell friends. No surprise I absolutely bombed, but it gave me such a satisfying feeling. I have been doing stand up for a little over a year now.

What do you want visitors and locals to know about stand up comedy that they may not already know?

That for the most part comedians are artists. Comedians work very hard from writing to stage presence. It is definitely a art form that can never be mastered.

What’s the craziest thing to happen to you during a set?

I had a drunk dude run on stage during one of my sets trying to grab me while yelling, f**k her right in the p***y into the microphone. FSU definitely knows how to party.

What do you do to pass the time when traveling for gigs?

When traveling to Tallahassee I listen to a lot of Chance the Rapper. When I lived in Tennessee for my freshman year of college I would just look at the beautiful Tennessee mountains on my 40 minute drives to the Comedy Catch open mic in Chattanooga Tennessee.

What’s next for you?

Hopefully feature and headline more local shows in Tallahassee. I am also running my own show in Donalsonville Georgia at the Coffee Grounds called Dustin’s Decaf Comedy Show! Besides that I just want to keep improving upon my art form.

Describe stand up comedy in 5 words or less. My escape from growing up.
