Ironically enough, I never grew up wanting to be an actor. I remember one day during summer break from college, I was watching a TV show and was extremely immersed in the story and drawn in by the actors. I realized that these actors were real people with real lives. With their gift of acting, they were able to captivate and entertain. This realization stuck with me and I was filled with a desire to be like them. If they could do it, why couldn’t I?
How would you explain acting to those who would want to pursue it?
This business is a MARATHON not a SPRINT. Many people get caught up on these “overnight” successes and don’t realize that some of those actors have worked tirelessly for years. You have to visualize exactly what you want and you have to go for it without any doubts. You have to be committed no matter what anybody says. In terms of actually acting, have fun with your character! Mentally and behaviorally transform yourself into that person.
What’s the craziest thing to happen on set?
Crazy things are always happening on set, however, one moment that comes to mind is when I was prepping for a scene and the director approached me with a chocolate cake and essentially told me I had to gobble down the entire cake for the scene. Chocolate is my favorite flavor…let’s just say that it was the most glorious scene I had ever done. It was truly a ‘piece of cake’.
How has the industry evolved over the years?
One of the most powerful things to affect the industry has been accessibility. Just about everyone has access to the internet and thus better access to casting calls, networks, news of current events, and ways to submit for roles.
What’s next for you?
I am fortunate enough to have received a Master’s degree in Psychology. This degree has helped me take on unique perspectives for different acting roles. My desire is to continue utilizing my skills for greater growth as an actor. I’ve had the opportunity to demonstrate to others that anything you set your mind to can be accomplished.
