Get To Know The Candidate : Charlie Strickland

What brings you to Tallahassee? – I came to Tallahassee to work for the Florida State University Police Department and get my Bachelor’s Degree from FSU.

What do you want visitors and locals to know about Tallahassee that they may not already know? – Tallahassee is driven by its sense of community, from small businesses to personal networks. If you need a hand, someone will always help you out.
How has Tallahassee evolved over the years? – Over the past few decades, Tallahassee has really become my home. I’ve watched our community grow in good ways, and I’ve watched it struggle with different challenges. It’s unacceptable that Leon County has the highest crime rate per person in the state two years in a row now.
What made you want to run for office? – I’m running to make a difference. I don’t want to raise my kids in a county that has the highest crime rate in the state, and I certainly don’t want to retire after 25 years and see things getting worse.
What are your goals if elected? – I want to drop our city’s crime rate, I want to implement body cameras to improve accountability and transparency, and I want to increase the number of opportunities for cross training across our law enforcement agencies.
What social media do you use? – I’m pretty active on Facebook, both personally and for my campaign.
Describe Tallahassee in 5 words or less – Ready for leadership and change.
