When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
I’ve never really thought about it! I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil. I remember getting really into it when I was 6 or 7 and I would fill up sketch books when I would watch Toonami after school. It’s a little embarrassing to admit, but the shows they played on there (1997-2003) were a HUGE inspiration and helped me stay motivated to keep drawing (mostly Sailor Moon). 😂
What do you want visitors and locals to know about being an artist that they may not already know?
Ooooh. I can’t really think of anything that isn’t obvious… Being an artist is super exciting and can also be exhausting. I can go days being grumpy and not touching a pencil because my brain and hands aren’t coordinating. Sometimes I need a break from it to get my groove back. When I’m ready to get back at it after having some time off, that’s when I usually make something awesome!
How has the industry evolved over the years?
I feel like social media has really helped a ton of people get their name out there and become successful artists. I love seeing younger artists making a living just by selling their prints and originals online. It’s really inspiring!
What inspires you for your art?
Mostly nature, games/movies, space, and people. I also enjoy making fan art on games and shows that I’m into (just like when I was a kid).
I love having Instagram and Sktchy to use as references! I usually scroll through random profiles until I find a person that I want to turn into something neat. Technology is great (haha)!
What’s next for you?
I moved here from a small town in North Georgia and Tallahassee has really opened a lot of doors for me. Right now I’m working on improving my watercolor technique and doing more shows. I’m hoping to start traveling around more and show in different states!
