Entertainment Spotlight : Artist Daniel Hooker

When did you know you wanted to be an artist?

I can’t remember a time that I didn’t want to be an artist. How that looks, and my understanding of what that means has changed a lot over the years but I’ve loved to draw as far back as I can remember.

What do you want visitors and locals to know about being an artist that they may not already know?

I’m a firm believer that everyone is an artist, or at least that everyone has the capacity for art. I believe it’s a part of the human condition and everyone should take both time to create art and admire art. You don’t have to paint beautiful pictures to feel the excitement of artistic exploration and you don’t have to look for complex meaning in a piece to enjoy it’s beauty.

How has the industry evolved over the years?

The world of art has never stopped evolving and never will. I can’t really speak to the functioning of the industry or how it’s changed, but I feel that the biggest change I see in art, for better or worse, is the growing number of people actively pursuing their artistic passion, and having the ability to reach millions of people without ever leaving home. Thanks Internet!

What inspires you for your art?

I find inspiration everywhere. Sometimes it comes from my family, sometimes from something abstract like the shape of a shadow on the wall, and sometimes from looking at other artists. ( I have lots of favorites so I won’t list any but if you ever bump into me feel free to ask 🙂 )

What’s next for you?

Right now I’m working on my series Line of Ruin and I have a stack of projects queued that I’m excited to get into. Follow me online and sometimes you’ll get hints and glimpses of those.
